OVERVIEW: Critical access hospitals are required to comply with CMS conditions of participation. There are commonly cited deficiencies during standard surveys and complaint investigations of critical access hospitals. This webinar identifies the top-cited regulations and explains the regulation and why they are found noncompliant.
OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
- Describe and discuss why an accredited hospital must comply with CMS regulations;
- Explain the implications of a condition-level deficiency;
- Describe commonly cited deficiencies; and
- Explain the regulations and related interpretative guidelines for each deficiency.
MEET YOUR FACULTY
Nancy Ruzicka, Nancy Ruzicka is a consultant on state and federal rules, regulations and interpretative guidelines. She previously worked as director of integrity and compliance and privacy official at MercyOne Des Moines and director of regulatory compliance at UnityPoint Health-Des Moines. She also has more than 20 years of experience with the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals. Ruzicka holds master’s degrees in health law and business administration and a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy, all from Drake University. She is certified in healthcare compliance and maintains her Iowa pharmacy license.

Webinar materials are provided 1-2 business days in advance of the webinar. Once webinar materials are distributed no refunds will be issued and full payment is expected.
CANCELLATION POLICY:
Cancellations received in writing up to one week prior to a scheduled event will be charged a cancellation fee of $40 (per person, per event). Registrants who are unable to attend an LHA educational event are permitted to, and encouraged to send a substitute without incurring a cancellation fee. Please send written notice of any substitutions prior to the scheduled event. Cancellations received less than one week prior to the scheduled event, or individuals who fail to attend will result in a non-refundable registration fee.
TRANSFER POLICY:
Transfer requests must be in writing and received one week prior to the event to receive a credit to use at a later date. A $40 transfer fee will be charged. The LHA will hold your credit for a period of one year following the start date of the program for which you were originally registered. Transfer requests received less than one week prior to event will result in a non-refundable registration fee.
