Credentialing Compliance in Today's Environment - 2020

WHO SHOULD ATTEND: Credentialing professionals, medical services professionals, medical staff leaders, department chiefs, credentials committee members, medical executive committee members, CEOs, VPMAs, CMOs, medical directors and QA/PI directors.

OVERVIEW: This program provides a practical, in-depth review of aspects of credentialing, recredentialing and privileging, including verifying primary sources; applying criteria for appointment; reviewing the application for completeness; identifying “red flags;” confirming roles in the review and approval process; managing meetings; credentialing telemedicine and allied health professionals; coordinating the peer-review process; and performing credentials file audits. Lecture will be reinforced with table-top exercises and other discussion-based sessions. There will be adequate time to discuss issues and answer questions.

This program is geared toward those new to these
processes, but can serve as a great refresher
for the experienced credentialing professional.

 

PROGRAM OBJECTIVES

Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify CMS regulations for credentialing and privileging;
  • Discuss credentialing and privileging requirements of The Joint Commission;
  • Identify and evaluate “red flags” in an application;
  • Define appropriate mechanisms for primary source verification and approved secondary or equivalent sources;
  • Recognize the roles of various persons involved in the review and approval process;
  • Determine effective mechanisms for credentialing and privileging allied health and telemedicine providers;
  • Discuss the medical services professional’s role in the peer-review and hearing processes; and
  • Evaluate meeting minutes to determine appropriate documentation

MEET YOUR FACULTY

Kathy Matzka, CPMSM, CPCS, Kathy is a speaker, consultant and writer with more than 30 years of experience in credentialing, privileging and medical staff services. Kathy worked for 14 years as a hospital medical staff coordinator before venturing out on her own as a consultant, writer and speaker. She holds certification by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS) in both Medical Staff Management and Provider Credentialing. She is one of the first recipients of the NAMSS Fellow Designation. Kathy has performed extensive work with NAMSS’ Education Committee developing and editing educational materials related to the field including CPCS and CPMSM Certification Exam Preparatory Courses, and CPMSM and CPCS Professional Development Workshops. She also serves as instructor for NAMSS.

Cancellations received in writing up to one week prior to a scheduled event will be charged a cancellation fee of $40 (per person, per event). Registrants who are unable to attend an LHA educational event are permitted to, and encouraged to send a substitute without incurring a cancellation fee. Please send written notice of any substitutions prior to the scheduled event. Cancellations received less than one week prior to the scheduled event, or individuals who fail to attend will result in a non-refundable registration fee.

Transfer requests must be in writing and received one week prior to the event to receive a credit to use at a later date. A $40 transfer fee will be charged.  The LHA will hold your credit for a period of one year following the start date of the program for which you were originally registered. Transfer requests received less than one week prior to event will result in a non-refundable registration fee.

REGISTRATION: Registrations are accepted online only. VISA, Master Card, Discover, and American Express are accepted. Email confirmations will be sent to registrants upon completion of registration. To ensure timely delivery of instructions and handouts, and inclusion on the attendee list, registrations should be completed online one week prior to the event. SUBSTITUTION POLICY: Registrants who are unable to participate in an LHA educational event are permitted and encouraged to have an eligible substitute; however, written notice of the substitution must be emailed to [email protected] at least seven business days in advance of the event. The substitution option is not available if written notification is received by the LHA less than seven business days before the scheduled program.
