OVERVIEW: Whether you are a new or experienced provider, Medicare can sometimes be challenging. We invite you to join us to explore the most current information and resources available to help you remain compliant with the Medicare program.

  • Navigating the Basics of Medicare will focus on the basics of Medicare, covered and non-covered services, information regarding the new Medicare Card, preventive services, Medicare reimbursement and much more.
  • Navigating Part A Medicare Billing will focus on how to complete and submit Medicare Part A claims, prevent common claim submission errors, interpret remittance advice details, review credit balance reporting, use self-service options, and discuss what to expect after you filed the claim.
  • Prevent Part A Claim Denials and Rejections will explore the Part A claim process. We will discuss the claims submission guidelines, how to interpret a remittance advice, and how to prevent and correct the most common claim errors. We will also explore all the self-service tools that will improve efficiency when correcting claims. In addition, we will discuss the new Targeted Probe and Educate process and illustrate how to prevent and research denied claims.
  • Mastering Part A Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) Billing will introduce you to the MSP basics, eligibility verification best practices, billing requirements, how to navigate the coordination of benefits process and how to prevent common billing errors. The information you will receive in this class will enhance your knowledge and will help to ensure proper billing and coding of MSP claims.

MEET YOUR FACULTY: Diane Hess, Part A Education Specialist, Novitas Solutions, Inc.

Diane Hess has 23 years of experience working in Medicare as a Customer Service Representative, Quality Analyst, and currently an Education Specialist. Her current job functions include educating Medicare providers on Part A regulations, billing and coding through onsite visits, presentations, workshops, webinars and teleconferences. She is also a liaison to the Part A Claims and Customer Contact Center. She is a Certified Professional Coder through the American Academy of Professional Coders, and she strives to provide excellent customer service to her customers.

Teresa Tatum, Part A Education Specialist, Novitas Solutions, Inc.

Teresa Tatum has 41 years of experience in Medicare Part A claims, billing and operations. Prior to joining Novitas in October 2012, she was employed by TrailBlazer Health Enterprises and also served in the education department as an End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), Ambulance and Direct Data Entry (DDE) subject matter expert and a Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) Auditor.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Cancellations received in writing up to one week prior to a scheduled event will be charged a cancellation fee of $40 (per person, per event). Registrants who are unable to attend an LHA educational event are permitted to, and encouraged to send a substitute without incurring a cancellation fee. Please send written notice of any substitutions prior to the scheduled event. Cancellations received less than one week prior to the scheduled event, or individuals who fail to attend will result in a non-refundable registration fee. 

TRANSFER POLICY : Transfer requests must be in writing and received one week prior to the event to receive a credit to use at a later date. A $40 transfer fee will be charged.  The LHA will hold your credit for a period of one year following the start date of the program for which you were originally registered. Transfer requests received less than one week prior to event will result in a non-refundable registration fee.

To ensure timely delivery of instructions and handouts, and inclusion on the attendee list, registrations should be completed online one week prior to the event. CANCELLATION POLICY: Individuals who cancel more than seven business days prior to a scheduled event will be charged a cancellation fee of $50 per person unless the registration fee is complimentary. SUBSTITUTION POLICY: Registrants who are unable to participate in an LHA educational event are permitted and encouraged to have an eligible substitute; however, written notice of the substitution must be emailed to [email protected] at least seven business days in advance of the event. The substitution option is not available if written notification is received by the LHA less than seven business days before the scheduled program.
